On Tuesday Damien Mulley announced a competition to determine “Are you the best SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) person in Ireland?“ Of course among all the usual faces there has been quite a buzz. Its a great idea for a competition.
Take two words. Try to rank at the number 1 position for them after roughly 1 month.
Am I taking part ? HELL YEAH … 
I don’t have that much time to devote to it though. We’ll see how it goes I’ll be happy if I can make it to the first page I think.
There have been a number of threads / posts and comment from people in the past saying SEO is dead/pointless/useless. Starting a blog on it probably isn’t the best idea then 
I’m going to use the competition to try out a few different things. Its nice as its not a customer site. If I fail miserably it doesn’t affect my business (high rankings of websites aren’t something I offer … they just tend to get there for their keywords over the course of a few months)
Anyways what am I trying out.
Well I registered a domain name Task Drop … absolutely nothing to do with the two words “Geansai” and “Gorm” (Irish words for Blue Jumper) No mention of Ireland in the title. No mention of Jumpers / Irish and so on. So immediately I’d assume I’m at a slight disadvantage. What do I bring to the table. Hopefully enough.
Many people seem to think wordpress is the way to go and well you can’t really argue with how quickly you can get your sites indexed via wordpress and the Update Services that come as default. (You could almost say it takes the fun out of it)
For the moment I’ve a static website. Geansai Gorm. I mentioned the competition on my blog yesterday and it seemed to do some good as later on that night my site freshly registered that morning shot up to 7th. Though that has probably changed already now.
I would have used this site (Forbairt Marketing) only I registered the domain a while back and one of the rules state that the domain has to be a newly registered domain.
Anyways best of luck to all involved. It should be a fun month of monitoring, tweaking and hopefully not too much spamming of blogs and links.

Interesting to see how it all pans out. TaskDrop seems to be doing ok for the moment but once the big boys come out to play it’ll start to lose ground. I’m curious how much of an impact having blue jumper and so on will have on the term Geansai Gorm though. Does google really care that it means blue jumper ? does it just give people something to write about and a silly url name ?
